4-H Teens to Serve at Wayne County Camp this Summer

Several teens participated in a training on Saturday May 19 at the Wayne County Extension Office. These teens include (l-r): Paige Roseberry, Kayleigh Cox, Zane Smith, Hunter Donahoe, James Cox, Sarah Ferry and Brenna Barnett (missing Mona Napier), will serve as Teen Camp Counselors at either the 4-H Younger Camp and/or the Cloverbud Day Camp next month. Teen staff are an invaluable part of camp as it is an opportunity for them to build public speaking, communication, and teamwork skills while serving at camp. 4-H Summer Educational Tours

This summer the Wayne County 4-H Program will office educational tours every Tuesday in July. These tours are designed to keep our youth engaged in the 4-H program during the summer months and to learn more about our county and area. The tours will include: 

Wayne County 4-H'ers Compete in State 4-H Forestry Contest

Congratulations to our Junior Forestry Team. On Saturday May 5, they represented Wayne County for the first time at the State 4-H Forestry Contest! They had to complete several tests including:

The team has met weekly since early March to practice and study for this state contest. We are very proud of all their hard work and commitment!

State 4-H Poster Winners Announced

Congratulations to the 2018 West Virginia State 4-H Poster Contest participants from Wayne County! Our winners hail from the Genoa Warriors 4-H Club and our after school programs at Buffalo Elementary and Prichard Elementary.

Wayne 4-H Projects Due July 9

Wayne County 4-H members should turn in their 4-H Projects by Monday, July 9, into the Extension Office in Wayne. Members should bring the exhibit part of the project to the Wayne County Fair on Monday, July 30, between 4 and 7 p.m., to Exhibit Hall at Camden Park. Wayne County 4-H & Supporters Encouraged to Vote on May 8

Since the 1950s, Wayne County voters have continuously supported the excess levy, which is renewed every five years. This levy does not raise taxes , but simply continues the rate that has been in place. This levy supports several organizations in the county, including the WVU Wayne County Extension Office. Early voting starts April 25 and runs through May 5, 2018. Voting day is May 8, 2018.

WVU Geosciences Summer Camp

Wayne County 4-H youth are encouraged to check out a new camp! The Davis College and USGS will host a Geosciences Summer Camp at WVU this summer (June 17-21). This is a pilot program for a longer, 2-week camp that will be hosted beginning in 2019.
