4-H Summer Tours Scheduled

This summer, the WVU Extension Service Wayne County office has arranged for youth to participate in FREE educational tours of places in our county/region. Parents/guardians must attend with their child. The tours are as follows:

Creekside Golf Course: July 2 at 3 p.m.

Youth Compete in State 4-H Forestry Contest

Several Wayne County 4-H youth competed in the 2019 State 4-H / FFA Forestry Contest on May 4 at the Westvaco Natural Resource Center near Morgantown. The photo includes (l-r): Duke Parsley, Danielle Adkins, Josie Parsley, Addy Smith, Coach & Ag Agent Evan Wilson, Alivia Adkins, and Jenna Adkins. The Junior Team of Duke, Addie and Josie placed first in the state in the junior division. Duke placed 4th in the state; Danielle placed 6th in the state; Addy placed 7th in the state; Jenna placed 9th in the state, Alivia placed 10th in the state; and Josie placed 11th in the state.

As part of the competition, youth had to complete an exam with a variety of forestry related questions, as well as be tested in compass and pacing, insect identification, tree identification, tree disease identification, tree measurement and forest evaluation. Ambassadors Tour Goodwill Recycling Center

The Wayne County 4-H Ambassadors Team toured the Goodwill Recycling and Retail Store on Thursday April 25, 2019. The Ambassadors are learning more about recycling as this topic will be their next community service project. Many thanks to Alissa Stewart, Director of Goodwill for an amazing tour! News from the 4-H County Round Up

Please help congratulate our presenters tonight at our annual County 4-H Round Up. The youth who participated include (l-r): Conner Hall, PowerPoint Presentation; Iggy Ballengee, Speech; Zacharia Ballengee, Visual Demonstration; and Simon Ballengee, Speech. They stand with judges Linda Parsons and Lauren Marcum. Conner and Simon will go onto to represent Wayne County in the State 4-H Virtual Contest later this month!

Wayne County Round Up Winners

4-H'ers Compete in WV Stockman's Contest

On April 12, 2019, eight Wayne County 4-H'ers traveled to Weston, WV to compete in the 2019 WV Beef Expo & Stockman's Contest. The youth include (l-r): Autumn Adams, Josie Parsley, Jenna Adkins, Danielle Adkins, Alivia Adkins, Addy Smith, Kamron Christian, and Duke Parsley. They stand with their Coach–Wayne-Cabell Ag Agent–Evan Wilson. The youth were tested in plant identification, meat quality assurance, livestock judging and several other content areas. The Junior Team of Duke, Danielle, Addy and Kamron placed 8th in the state.

4-H Livestock Project Day

The Wayne County Extension Office will offer a 4-H Project Day on Monday, May 13, from 4 - 6 p.m., for any youth enrolled in a Livestock Project. Bring your projects and record guides and we will devote time to answering questions and completing activities. If you have questions, please call our office at 304-272-6839.

Reality Store Volunteers

Many thanks to all our volunteers who helped with the Reality Store programs this month at Crum and Wayne Middle School. Over 200 middle school youth were reached with the program as a result of many volunteers who gave up part of their day to help with this program.
