Highlights from Annual 4-H Achievement Night

Congratulations to all our 4-H members, volunteers and community partners on an amazing year! The annual 4-H Achievement Night was held December 7 at 6 p.m. at the Wayne Methodist Church. Youth were recognized for their county, state and national achievements this past year. 4-H volunteers were recognized for their years of service, induction into the WV 4-H All Stars and outstanding service to the 4-H program. Community partners who help 4-H do the work they do, were also recognized. They include:

Fall Computer Science First Clubs Wrap Up

National Computer Science Week was December 9-15. This week, our office wrapped up the 8-week Computer Science (CS) First program at Prichard Elementary and at Fort Gay PreK-8. This fall we also conducted this program with students at Lavalette Elementary. The CS First Program teaches basic computer science skills such as coding and programming in a fun and interactive way. The photo features the 5th grade class at Prichard Elementary. Youth Make Drones at Monthly Club Meeting

The Fort Gay Vikings 4-H Club held their monthly meeting on December 12 at the Fort Gay PreK-8 school cafeteria. Over 15 youth were in attendance. Youth learned about drones and made a propcopter (featured in the picture) as well as they very own drone made out of a Styrofoam plate. Youth also did a Breakout.EDU game, trying to answer riddles to unlock boxes which teaches teamwork, critical thinking and communication skills. Wayne County 4-H'er Invited to 2019 NAE4-HA Conference

Ambassadors Recycle Crayons

The 4-H Ambassadors spent the afternoon of November 11 up cycling used crayons into snow flakes, Christmas trees, and other designs to give to children with cancer at our local hospitals as a way to help brighten their day!

Reality Store Programs Held this Fall

Many thank to all the volunteers and staff at Crum PREK8 and Fort Gay PREK8 on November 14 and 20, respectively for their willingness to help with the Reality Store program which was offered to the 6th - 8th grades. The Reality Store will also be held at Buffalo Middle School on December 4, 2019. Reality Store is an opportunity for middle school students to learn about the importance of budgeting and saving through a small taste of what life as an adult will be like. Youth Learning about the Wonders of Water

Utilizing resources from Project WET, youth at 4-H After School Sites in Wayne County are learning about the wonders of water during the month of November. 4-H After School participates at Kellogg Elementary, Buffalo Elementary, Prichard Elementary and Fort Gay PreK-8 schools learned about the chemical properties of water.
