Wayne County 4-H News

On July 17, over 60 gift bags were delivered to the Wayne Nursing Home that were made by campers at 4-H Younger Camp in June. Each gift bag included home made lotion, a sun catcher, socks and a card decorated and signed by 4-H'ers. This was a community service project at camp in an effort to spread some joy and let them know they are loved!

The Project WET (water education for teachers) was offered in the Wayne County office on Tuesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 18. Six adults from throughout the county participated in this hands-on training that will afford them to offer educational lessons to youth in elementary school through high school. Many thanks to Tomi Bergstrom (shown standing in the photo) with the WV Dept of Environmental Protection for this wonderful curriculum and resource. The Wayne County wrapped up the Energy Express program with children on Friday July 19, 2019. When you hear kids say they are sad that the program has come to an end, you know the program made an impact! Many thanks to all our Site Supervisors, Community Coordinators and Mentors for their efforts. Combined they reached over 200 youth this summer. Site teams will be serving the week of July 22 to tidy up classrooms and engage in community service work.

The Wayne Family Resource Network & the Extension Office are partnering to offer a wonderful hands-on and engaging program for parents with children 10-14 years. The Strengthening Families Program is FREE with dinner served each Monday and Thursday night in September at the Urlings Building in Wayne. The dates include:

Cloverbud Day Camp was held June 11 - 14 at Mays Chapel near Lavalette. Youth engaged in lots of hands-on educational activities around healthy living, citizenship, and science. Camp also featured a variety of speakers. Here are a few highlights.

The 2019 4-H Younger Camp was held Jun 18 - 21 at Cabwaylingo State Forest. Youth engaged in lots of hands-on learning that involved STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) activities, arts and crafts, hiking and agricultural science in the morning and all kinds of fun activities each afternoon. Below are just a few highlights from a great week at Cabwaylingo!

The WV 4-H Air Rifle Team wrapped up competition last Thursday June 27, 2019 in Grand Island, NE. The team finished 5th out of 19 teams nationally. Andrew Kelley and Chase Smith of Wayne County, placed 11th and 12th respectively, after three days of competition, out of 79 air rifle competitors. Please help us congratulation them and their coaches on a job well done!
