Important Details for 4-H Camp

The start of the 4-H Camp season is days away. Confirmations were emailed to all parents and guardians. Below is a summary of important details for each camp. 

Cloverbud Day Camp

Cloverbud Day Camp at Mays Chapel: Registration starts at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday June 11. Drop off times for the remainder of the week is 9 a.m. Dropping your children off prior to these times is not allowed. The only exception is for adult staff with children attending camp. Pick up is daily is between 2:30 – 3 p.m.

Mays Chapel does not have a landline telephone. Julie Tritz is the Camp Director (cell phone number is 304-382-3204). This phone number should only be used in case of an emergency.

Cloverbud Day Camp is closed to the public. The only adults that are allowed on site are WVU Extension staff as well as approved, trained, and vetted 4-H volunteers.  Family and friends are not allowed to visit or drop off supplies without the Camp Director’s knowledgeNo exceptions. This is for the safety and protection of the youth attending camp. The only exception to this rule is the closing camp program (see below).

Cloverbud Day Camp participants should take their medication prior to arriving at camp. If lunch time medication is required, please inform the Camp Director at registration on the first day of camp.

  • Campers are not allowed to keep any medication on their person during camp.
  • Please send a pack lunch with your child. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Plenty of water is available throughout the day.
  • Necessary items: comfortable clothes, a pair of comfortable shoes, and appropriate outer wear in case of rain. (Do not bring anything to camp that you would be upset about if you lost it). 
  • Photos of the entire camp, as well as tribes, will be available – free of charge - for all campers at checkout on Friday.
  • Parents are invited and encouraged to attend the closing camp program. These programs feature highlights from the week (songs) as well as camp awards.

Cloverbud Day Camp  closing program will be held June 14 at 2 p.m. at Mays Chapel. 

Parents/guardian must sign out their child at the conclusion of the program each day. 


Younger & Older Camps

Registration for  4-H Younger Camp starts at 4 p.m., on Tuesday, June 18. Dropping your children off prior to this time is not allowed. The only exception is for adult staff with children attending camp. Pick up is Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m. promptly. 

Registration for  4-H Older Camp starts at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 24 . Dropping your children off prior to this time is not allowed. The only exception is for adult staff with children attending camp. Pick up is Friday, June 28 at 6 p.m., promptly.

All medication must be sent to camp in their original containers. Please send only enough medication for the week.All campers with medication must present their prescribed medication and over-the-counter meds at registration. Campers are not allowed to keep any medication on their person during camp.There is a health care provider with paramedic qualifications who is on duty during camp and will treat all minor ailments. 911 will be called for campers with more serious problems. The parent/guardian will be notified immediately.

What to Pack (Do not bring anything to camp that you would be upset about if you lost it) 

Necessary items: comfortable clothes (t-shirts, shorts, etc for four days), a pair of comfortable shoes, towels, sheets and blankets for single bed (or sleeping bag), pillow, personal items (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc), sunblock, water bottle (optional as we have coolers and cups for water), bag for dirty/ wet clothes, jeans and light jacket for cool nights, and rain gear.

Forbidden items: cell phones, ipods, video games, game boys (and the like), or anything expensive (jewelry, etc). 4-H camp is about "unplugging from technology” for one week to create friendships and learn new skills. If the Camp Director or other adult staff see a camper with a cell phone, etc. it will be confiscated, placed in a locked container, and returned upon the conclusion of camp on Friday.  Tobacco use by minors is strictly forbidden and it is illegal to use tobacco products at camp.  All tobacco products are forbidden including cigarettes, spit tobacco or Juul products.

Food is also not allowed; if found it will be confiscated. Food is a risk to those with food allergies and invites bugs and insects during hot summer temperatures. The camp menu provides three healthy meals daily along with snacks and drinks throughout the day.

Photos of the entire camp, as well as tribes, will be available – free of charge – for all campers at checkout on Friday.

The theme for 4-H Camp is "4-H Under the Big Top.”  Camp participants are invited to bring an appropriate and tasteful costume for Thursday night of camp. It is important to stress that this is optional and not required of campers attending our camps.

  • Closing Program for  Younger Camp at Cabwaylingo is held June 21 at 5 p.m. (behind dining hall)
  • Closing program for  Older Camp at Cabwaylingo State Forest is held Friday June 28 at 5 p.m. (behind dining hall).
