WVU Jackson’s Mill will return to hosting a monthly Homeschool Day for students K-12

Students learning at West Virginia University Jackson's Mill Homeschool Day'sAs summer wraps up, West Virginia University Jackson's Mill invites homeschool students in grades K-12 to attend Homeschool Days, an event series for homeschool youth in West Virginia.

WVU Jackson’s Mill Homeschool Days will take place October 15, November 12 and December 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students can participate in a variety of activities across science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM), as well as engage in outdoor and history education. All programming for the event is grade-appropriate and adheres to the West Virginia Department of Education Content Standards.

The program offers homeschool students a valuable opportunity to engage in activities that they may not have the chance to experience at home. Emma Gardner, Jackson’s Mill STEM specialist takes great pride in this initiative.

“I’m super proud of this program. This is our fourth year doing this, if we count the pilot year. We wanted to give homeschoolers in West Virginia a chance to experience something like our regular field trip programming. We offer monthly opportunities for them to come and engage with hands-on learning in areas like STEM, outdoor education and history,” Gardner said.

The program has performed well in its four years, bringing more students back each year.

“It’s been really well received. We did a family survey and 100% of respondents said they’d definitely bring their kids back. And when we ask students for feedback, more than 90% of them say they had a great time and want to come back. That tells us we’re doing something right – and it’s amazing to see how many families return month after month,” Gardner added.

Participants can register for WVU Jackson’s Mill Homeschool Days by signing up for the program’s email list to receive a registration link for each event, which is sent out a month in advance.

The registration cost is $25 per youth, and additional meals are available for $13 for adults. For questions, contact WVU Jackson’s Mill at (304) 269-5100 or email jacksons.mill@mail.wvu.edu.
