The land-grant mission of West Virginia University is woven into every crevice and corner of the Mountain State. From life-saving research to localized programs aimed at improving our communities, WVU is West Virginia’s university.Faculty, staff, youth and volunteers will celebrate these change-making programs, WVU and WVU Extension will host the 2025 Day at the Legislature from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the upper rotunda of the West Virginia Capitol Building in Charleston.
Visitors of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend this free event, which will feature information and activities from organizations across WVU. This year’s event will highlight the university's cutting-edge academic programs, health care, youth programs, workforce development and resources focused on enhancing economic prosperity. Families, young people and other visitors will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, explore interactive exhibits and discover the importance of civic engagement.
With a diverse offering of activities and educational opportunities, including robotics, safety, nursing, medicine, 4-H, Energy Express, outdoor and historical education visitors of all ages will learn something new. Additionally, the Mountaineer mascot will greet guests and take photos.
WVU President Gordon Gee, who will retire in June, will be honored with special proclamations by the House and Senate in recognition for his service to the state and to the University.
“There is no other university in the state who offers the programs and resources that we do to not only prepare students for future careers, but also address the most pressing needs of our fellow citizens,” associate vice president and dean of the WVU Division for Land-Grant Engagement Jorge Atiles said. “Our research and community-engaged educational programs address topics that are important to our citizens, including program such as financial literacy and career readiness to farming, nutrition and youth education. This event is a great way to showcase and celebrate our outreach and service to the state.”
