Wayne County CEOS News
The Book Club is Meeting in April
Our county CEOS program is holding its book club discussion on April 19, 2021 at 10 a.m. here in the Extension Office. The featured book is Dirt by Mary Marantz. "Dirt is a story about the places where we start. From a single-wide trailer in the mountains of rural West Virginia to the halls of Yale Law School, Mary Marantz's story is one of remembering our roots while turning our faces to the sky. From growing up in that trailer, where it rained just as hard inside as out and the smell of mildew hung thick in the air, Mary has known what it is to feel broken and disqualified because of the muddy scars leaving smudged fingerprints across our lives. Generations of her family lived and logged in those hauntingly treacherous woods, risking life and limb just to barely scrape by. And yet that very struggle became the redemption song God used to write a life she never dreamed of."
If you plan to attend please email Cathy Smith so we will know if we have enough space or whether we need to find an alternate location (we can only have space for five people in our back room given social distancing requirements). Masks required.
Members Encouraged to Participate in Spring Conference
The State CEOS Program is planning a virtual conference scheduled for April 19-23 being offered through Zoom. Registration is required and this will be offered to the public for free. Wayne County CEOS members are encouraged to participate. Below is the conference schedule and sessions planned.
Health Motivator 2021
The annual Health Motivator monthly challenges and tips are available in the office. The monthly challenge for January focuses on Vitamin B12. Extension educators advise to make a conscious effort each day to incorporate foods high in vitamin B12 into your diet. Vitamin B12 is water-soluble meaning our body doesn't store it, so we need to replace it every day. Salmon, tuna and lean beef are excellent sources of B12. Check with you doctor if you are concerned about a vitamin B12 deficiency. If you are interested in learning more, please contact the Wayne County Extension office at 304-272-6839.
