CEOS Lesson: The Star Spangled Banner
The Star Spangled Banner was the flag that was flown during the fight with the British at Fort McHenry. It was the inspiration for Frances Scott Key when he wrote the poem "Defense of Fort M'Henry," which eventually became the National Anthem of the United States. This lesson will include historical and interesting facts, such as how the flag was sewn by a single, widowed mother on the floor of a brewery; how the pieces were cut from the flag and given away; how it was entrusted to the Smithsonian; and, painstaking efforts that were made to restore and preserve the flag.
