Morgantown, W.Va. – The West Virginia State Fire School is returning this year to ensure that West Virginia’s firefighters, from volunteer to full-time, get the most up-to-date training and certifications to keep their towns and communities safe. Best of all, it’s free to those firefighters that meet individual class prerequisites.
Hosted and organized by the West Virginia University Fire Service Extension, the school runs from Friday, Dec. 1 to Sunday, Dec. 3 and will take place in the Morgantown area. Organizers claim the school is an opportunity for growth for all firefighters, with classes that cover everything from self-contained breathing apparatus to helicopter firefighting.
“It’s incredible to be able to present West Virginia’s firefighters advanced, free training that they need to handle situations in their communities safely and skillfully,” said Mark Lambert, director of the WVU Fire Service Extension. “At the end of the day, that’s what it boils down to for us. A vast majority of West Virginia’s firefighters are volunteers, so we’re doing our part to give them training they may not be able to otherwise get because of various circumstances beyond their control.”

Lodging and meals are the responsibility of the firefighter, but there is a group rate at either the Fairfield Inn and Suites or Courtyard Morgantown.
“We’re really fortunate that with the support of Senator Greg Boso, along with the rest of the West Virginia Legislature, we’re able to deliver this vital and critical training to West Virginia firefighters,” said Lambert.
