WVU Extension Service encourages firefighters, first responders to attend West Virginia Weekend at the National Fire Academy

Each year, firefighters, first responders and other emergency personnel respond to thousands of emergencies, national disasters and other incidents. WVU Extension Fire Service continues to provide outreach, education and training opportunities to these professionals to ensure they are prepared to handle these difficult situations.

The National Fire Academy (NFA) will host West Virginia firefighters and emergency personnel on May 4-5, 2019, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Dubbed “West Virginia Weekend,” the two-day academy will feature courses on training operations in small departments; strategy and tactics for initial company operations; decision-making for initial company operations; and fire investigation. WVU Extension Fire Service assists NFA with recruiting attendees and coordinates registration for the event.

“Being prepared, informed and well trained is critical for our first responders,” said Mark Lambert, director, WVU Extension Fire Service. “This weekend is offered for our state emergency service and fire professionals – both volunteer and paid – to expand their knowledge and skills, which will allow us to do our jobs safely and effectively.”

Cost for the two-day academy is $100 and covers training, course materials, lodging, meals and other events and giveaways. Registration can be made online through WVU Extension Fire Service. Deadline to register is April 17, 2019.
