Photography 4-H Project Area
The 4-H Photography project area consists of three project manuals. Each manual covers
two years of activities.
This curriculum will help you understand the basics of photography, and then apply
your skills and build on them to master more sophisticated techniques and take
even better photos.
Activities in each level focus in four main areas: equipment, lighting, composition and skill building. Having access to a camera (smartphone or DSLR) is essential, as well as deciding how and where to store the photos taken during the project.
- Photography Basics (Level 1) topics include flash, black and white photography and taking selfies! This book will give 4-H members the tools to succeed at and enjoy their photography journey.
-
Next Level Photography (Level 2) topics include the rule of thirds, selecting
a lens and panorama.
- Mastering Photography (Level 3) topics include smartphone exposure tips, low light challenges and studio portraits.
If a member completes the 6 years of project manuals, they can work with their county Extension professionals to determine their learning opportunities for their remaining 4-H years.
Scoresheets
Each year, 4-H members should complete the required number of activities for that level. Members will also take part in at least 1 learning experience, at least 1 leadership/citizenship activity, and complete a project review.
Exhibit Ideas
- A display of your work in one of the activities, photo shoots, or entire project areas that was completed this year.
