Wood County 4-H & FFA Summer Showcase Results 2022

The Wood County 4-H & FFA Summer Showcase wrapped up with a very successful livestock sale. Thanks to a dedicated, hard-working group of volunteers, livestock buyers, and donors to our livestock program, more than 150 youth showcased their 4-H and FFA exhibits. There were 159 livestock projects exhibited, and 90 still projects. CEOS (Community Educational Outreach Service) members exhibited more than 100 items.

Colton Parsons, 19-year-old member of the Saulsbury 4-H Club was awarded the honor of Austin Shawver Master Showman of 2022 for the second straight year. The contest provides participants who win grand champion senior showman in each livestock species division an opportunity to compete for the title, and the winner receives a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Kent Welding and Wards Farm Supply and a Belt Buckle sponsored by Shawver Show Pigs.

Wood County 4-H & FFA Summer Showcase 2022

The Wood County 4-H & FFA Summer Showcase will be held July 18-23, 2022, and open to the public July 19-23, at the Wood County 4-H Campgrounds. Thanks to all of our volunteers and donors for their generous support to make this event possible for our youth in 2022.

Several family-friendly activities are planned for the week, and youth have the opportunity to enter exhibits into an open Art and Photography Contest thanks to the Parkersburg Art Center and Neal Smith Images. A Pet Show and Parade is also scheduled and open to all youth thanks to the generous support of Pet Supplies Plus, Pet Smart, and Rural King.

Wood County 4-H Camp Registration 2022

Older 4-H Camp is open to youth ages 13-21. See membership age requirements . Campers who are 18 years of age or older must complete the vetting process (background check, Title IX and Protecting our Children Training). Please contact the office to start the process if you have not already done so. Cost is $115 with an Early Bird Discount of $10 if registered by May 20. Spend the week with friends and participate in camp classes like shooting sports, Charting, dance, crafts, cooking, games, fishing, STEM and more. We will have a campfire program every night, daily activities, and a dance on the last night of camp.

Scholarships Available for College and Post-Secondary Education and Training

Attention Livestock Exhibitors - The Wood County Jr. Livestock Sale Committee is sponsoring two $500 scholarships for college or post-secondary training and education. Applications are open until April 29, 2022. https://wvu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aeG9tRC6PEoIdZI

Seniors who have exhibited a 4-H or FFA project at the State Fair of WV during the last 5 years are eligible to apply for a scholarship for college or vocational school. See all requirements at https://statefairofwv.com/scholarship-awards/. Deadline to apply is March 14.

Wood County 4-H Honors Volunteers 2021

Wood County 4-H recognized their outstanding volunteers for 2021 at their annual Awards Ceremony on December 11, 2021 at the Wood County 4-H Camp. Volunteers were recognized for years of service and outstanding achievements. “Each of our 4-H volunteers bring knowledge and experience to the program and teach valuable life skills to our 4-H members. 4-H volunteers are mentors, role models, teachers, advisors, coaches, and more. Wood County is lucky to have such a talented and caring group of 4-H leaders. The 4-H program is only possible because of the dedicated service of our volunteers. They deserve recognition every year, but especially on their anniversary years,” says Jodi Smith, WVU 4-H Extension Agent.

Wood County 4-H honored their 4-H members at their annual Awards Ceremony on December 11, 2021 at the Wood County 4-H Camp. Wood County 4-H members received several awards and recognitions for outstanding project work, community service, and leadership in 2021.

The inaugural Wood County 4-H & FFA Summer Showcase was a huge success. Thanks to all of our donors who made our Wood County 4-H Camp improvements possible, our hard-working and dedicated volunteers, our livestock buyers, and donors to our livestock program.

Thanks to Haleigh Kent and the Rebels 4-H Club for designing and building our Livestock Show announcer stand, and to Jordyne Lockhart for taking pictures throughout the week as a member of our Wood County Jr. Livestock Committee.
