Gardening 4-H Project Area
The 4-H Gardening project area consists of four project manuals. Each manual covers
two years of activities. The fourth manual covers three years of activities.
- Gardening Level A: See Them Sprout This project encourages youth to plan and plant a garden using different methods, understand plant parts, care for a garden, use garden tools, use their harvest and identify vegetable products. This is a two-year project.
- Gardening Level B: Let's Get Growing This project focuses on the following gardening skills: using transplants in a garden, developing a planting calendar to start seeds indoors, understanding plant responses, growing plants from plant parts, making a worm box, making compost, judging vegetables and growing vegetables for cash. This is a two-year project.
- Gardening Level C: Take Your Pick This project is divided into six major units. Each unit contains some general background information and two different activities. Each activity is designed so the young person has an opportunity to learn by doing. Includes a Vegetable Planting Guide, Record Sheets, and additional Gardening Resources. This is a two-year project.
- Gardening Level D: Growing Profits This project is divided into six major units. Each unit contains some general background information and two different activities. Each activity is designed so the young person has an opportunity to learn by doing. This is a three-year project.
Scoresheets
Each year, 4-H members are to complete all twelve (12) Project Interest Areas and
three (3) “More Challenges” activities. Complete the program in one year. If you
do additional “More Challenges” activities, please check the three (3) activities
you want to be graded. Record in your work in a notebook, including the what, when,
where, and how you accomplished each selected “More Challenges” activity. Include
your notebook with your project book for grading. Additional requirements that
are unique to the book are listed at the top of the scoresheet.
