Designing Your Own 4-H Project (Self-Determined)
Do you have trouble finding the right 4-H project just for you? Is there a topic that really interests you, but you have never found a 4-H project book to match it? Then the Self-Determined 4-H project might be just right for you.
A Self-Determined 4-H project allows you to choose a topic that interests you and
design your own project. You get to plan some of your own activities and create
an exhibit specific to your project. The Design Your Own 4-H Project Manual will
guide you through all the steps you will need to take to complete the project.
Choosing a Topic
When choosing a project topic, consider the following:
- Your Experiences and Skills –
- What have you done or are you currently involved in that would make a good Self-Determined project?
- What do you already know how to do?
- Your Interests –
- What topic interests you?
- What is something you have always wanted to learn more about?
- Your Resources –
- What do you have access to that could help you complete the project?
- Resources could include tools, space, money, time and helpers.
- Sources of Information –
- What information exists about your topic?
- How easy will information on your topic be to find?
- Are there experts in the field in your area?
