Career Exploration 4-H Project Area

Build Your Future Facilitator's Guide and Career Journal

The 4-H Career Exploration project area consists of a facilitator's guide and career journal that contains three years of activities.

Build Your Future is not a traditional project. It is designed to be used by groups. If you are doing this project as an individual, you will need both the Facilitator Guide and Career Journal to complete the activities. Please return the Facilitator Guide to your local Extension Office at the conclusion of your project work so it can be reused with the next interested 4-H member.

From exploring potential jobs to starting their own business, the “Build Your Future” curriculum helps teens develop skills and knowledge in career exploration. Participants experience a variety of learning methods, such as developing a business plan, competing in a quiz bowl, creating a portfolio, analyzing case studies and discussing questions that reflect on their experiences. Nine engaging activities provide a fun structure to help teens learn about their choices, make important connections and plan successful and meaningful careers.

Scoresheet

The Build Your Future project consists of nine activities that target high school students from 14 to 19 years of age. Your project helper will need a copy of the Facilitator’s Guide to help you complete the activities in your Career Journal.

  • Before you start this project, review the worksheets and experiences in each of the nine activities. Agree upon a project plan for the year with your project helper and Extension professional.
  • You may score a maximum of 55 points for your book score. Worksheets/experiences within each of the nine activities vary in value.

Download a copy of the scoresheet to determine what is expected for project completion.
