4-H News Reporter Project Area
This project is focused on teaching you how to tell your community about your 4-H club and its activities. Learn how to make certain your stories are newsworthy and how to work with newspapers, radio and television stations. Through the 4-H News Reporter project, you will write news releases. Make appointments with the newspapers, radio and television stations in your county to find out how to report your club’s news.
Scoresheet
Each year, 4-H members in this project area are expected to make appointments with
the newspapers, radio stations, and television stations in your county. Ask them
what they expect you to do to report your club's news. Follow their instructions
and write your news releases.
In a loose-leaf 8-1/2 x 11 notebook, keep a record about each visit you make to the media. Add examples of all news releases you wrote and include newspaper clippings of that news. Also include stories written by a newspaper reporter who followed up on a news tip you supplied about a 4-H event. List stations and dates of radio/TV uses of your news and tell what the story was about.
Exhibit Ideas
- Exhibit your notebook as outlined above in the scoresheet section.
