Honey Balsamic Pan-Seared Cabbage Steaks

This sweet and savory vegetarian dish is perfect as a main dish or alongside your favorite protein as a side. Try swapping the honey for maple syrup for a vegan spin.

Before You Cook

Ingredients
  • 1 head green cabbage cut into ¾ inch thick slices (4-5 cabbage steaks)
  • 4 Tablespoons olive oil
  • ¾ teaspoon coarse salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 sprig fresh thyme
Directions
  1. Preheat large skillet over medium high heat.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons olive oil, balsamic vinegar and honey.
  3. Arrange cabbage slices in shallow plate and brush with honey balsamic vinaigrette. Season with salt and ground pepper and sprinkle with thyme.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil to skillet.
  5. Transfer cabbage steaks to hot skillet and cook on both sides until cabbage slices are crisp tender and edges are golden – about 15 minutes total, brushing regularly with honey balsamic mixture.
  6. Transfer pan-seared cabbage steaks to plate. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper and sprinkle with fresh parsley (optional).
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Makes 4-5 servings.
