It’s time for Wood County 4-H Horse Camp, June 2 - 7, 2019!  We are looking forward to having an exciting and enjoyable learning experience. The theme for this year is “Back to the 80’s!” This year is the Campgrounds 80th Anniversary! The Horse Camp Committee has been working hard to improve your program as well as meet the guidelines of the state.  The committee has incorporated several changes. The cost of Wood County 4-H Horse Camp for 2019 is $ 110 for both 4-H’ers enrolled in the project in Wood County and campers attending from out of county.

Horse Camp is for 4-H members enrolled in the horse project during the current 4-H year and are eligible for 4-H events. And there will be NO walk-ins. Applications are due Friday, May 10, 2019 to the Wood County WVU Extension Office.

HORSE HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: All 4-H horse events must follow WV Department of Agriculture guidelines which state that every horse must be accompanied by an official health certification showing a negative Coggins test result within 12 months prior to the event.  You must show negative Coggins test papers upon entry to the camp grounds before unloading your horse, and all attendees should keep them available in case the WV Department of Agriculture has an inspection. Make sure your horse’s Coggins Test is up to date by the month and the year. Also, if your horse has been stalled out of state immediately prior to camp, you must obtain an approved Veterinarian Health Certificate for admittance to camp.

18 – 21 year old campers – All campers 18 and older are required to complete the 4-H volunteer vetting process. No camper of adult age may attend camp as a camper or counselor without completing this process. Campers of adult age will be given leadership and supervision responsibilities during tribal meetings and also during free time at camp. There is required training for 18 - 21 year old members who attend camp. When you complete the registration process, if you are an adult camper, you will be notified of requirements.
