Income Tax School

The WVU Extension Service Small Farm Center offers a wide variety of tax education opportunities for both tax professionals and farm families.

Here’s what we’re offering for the upcoming tax season.

Federal Income Tax Seminars

The Income Tax Schools were designed especially for accountants, tax practitioners, enrolled agents, small business owners, and bankers who manage, prepare and file income tax returns. Our instructors bring years of tax experience from the IRS point of view. Each fall, the Small Farm Center hosts two-day federal income tax seminars in Charleston and Morgantown. Attendees earn 16 Continuing Professional Education credits. Cost to register is $380. The registration fee includes the Income Tax class workbook as well as lunch prepared from all locally grown products.

Farm, Forestry and Natural Resource Tax Seminar

The Small Farm Center hosts yearly a one-day farm, forestry and natural resource tax seminar, which is often the only source of up-to-date tax code changes in agriculture, focusing on the Schedule F and Publication 225. Attendees earn 8 Continuing Professional Education credits. Cost to register is $190. The registration fee includes lunch prepared from all locally grown products.

For 2019, we are offering a special rate to encourage farmer attendance at a registration cost of $75. This special rate does not include CPE credits or the National Income Tax book. This rate will include meals. We encourage you farmers to join this seminar.

County-based Schedule F Trainings

The Small Farm Center also presents several farm income tax (Schedule F) workshops annually. The perspective of the workshops is toward enlightening participants as to how to manage tax liability which often involves a team approach involving professionals and the tax payer. Of course, the sessions include recent changes and rulings, but the classes focus on the many advantageous options filers have. This list includes spousal employment, accurate accounting of USDA conservation payments, and sub-section 179 deductions, to name a few.
