Certified Safety Specialist - Oil and Gas 

The Certified Safety Specialist – Oil & Gas (CSS-OG) Program is a specialized professional development certificate designed to address the unique and high-risk safety challenges found within the oil and gas industry. Delivered by the West Virginia University Safety and Health Extension, this program provides participants with the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to effectively manage safety, prevent incidents, and ensure compliance with OSHA and industry-specific regulations.

Ideal for safety professionals, supervisors, managers, and others responsible for safety in upstream, midstream, and downstream operations, this program emphasizes hazard identification, emergency response planning, and the development of effective, site-specific safety programs.

  • Core topics include well site safety and hazard recognition, confined space entry, hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) training, electrical, health hazards and safety management

Format:

Courses are available in both in-person and virtual formats to accommodate professionals and organizational needs.
Virtual attendance for OTIEC courses is limited to participants who live or work in OSHA Region III (WV, PA, VA, DE, MD, DC).
