Hay Management
Hay Management in West Virginia
Producers need stored forage for feeding livestock during winter months and droughts.
The most common forms of stored forage are dry hay and plastic-wrapped fermented
haylage. At times, stored forage is necessary for feeding livestock. It can be
high quality and convenient, but it can cost producers two to four times the
cost of properly managed pasture. Since stored forage is a higher cost feed,
proper management should be implemented to keep costs in line. The following
fact sheets provide some of the technical information to help accomplish this
goal.
