With our summer camps just a few short months away, we wanted to provide you with an update on our plans moving forward.
Our staff has been working closely with WVU, health experts/organizations and our national camping association to monitor the coronavirus. The safety and health of our 4-H’ers, volunteers and staff are always our first priority. As with any good camp planning program, we have developed contingency plans should we have to adjust camp schedules or make alternative arrangements for our programs.
Below are the timelines we’ve put in place (working cooperatively with WVU and WVU Extension administration). We hope this will provide you with some guidance and help you in making your plans for the summer.
Timelines
- The decision to cancel June camps was made on Wednesday, April 8th.
- Decisions on camp related events in July will be determined by late April or early May.
- *Decisions on camps that overlap at the end of one month and the beginning of another month will be determined based on which month the majority of the camp falls within.
We are working to put plans and contingencies in place for the following:
- ECI/STEM Ambassador hiring and training
- Accommodations and arrangements for those who may miss opportunities like Chief/Sag, Charting, All Star Recognition, aging out
- Online camp activities and social connections
- Modified public health and safety protocols for intake screening and while at camp
We are hopeful that our camping programs will proceed with as little disruption to programming as possible at this time. As noted earlier, we hold the safety of our campers, staff and 4-H families as paramount during these times. We will continue to keep you informed of our decisions as soon as we can.
