Seeing Yourself in the Future

The school enrichment program, Seeing Yourself in the Future, is a career readiness program that helps middle and high school students explore education and career options, while also offering interactive introductory lessons for students in grades 3-5 to provide early exposure to careers.

Middle and High School Program

The nine-session program includes the following lessons:

  • Seeing Yourself in the Future - Self exploration and career exploration / two-part lesson
  • En-"Vision"-ing the Future - Goal setting and vision boards
  • Unlocking Job Opportunities - Soft Skills are the Key - Soft skills development
  • Watch Your Step in Social Media Platforms - Social media effects on professional future
  • Make Your Job Application Stand Out - How to fill out a job application
  • Create a Winning Resume - How to create a resume
  • Dress for Success - Appropriate interview attire
  • Nail that Job Interview - Professional pitch and common interview questions

Elementary School Program

The five-session elementary school program includes the following lessons

  • Seeing Yourself in the Future – Let’s Explore!
  • Imagine the Future
  • Unlocking New Opportunities – Key Skills for Success!
  • Watch Your Step on the Internet
  • Communicating with Confidence

Audience

Seeing Yourself in the Future offers two types of programs.

  • The middle and high school program is provided for grades 6-12.
  • The elementary introductory program is provided for grades 3-5.

Delivery

WVU Extension will lead the adventures and bring materials for the activities.

Time Commitment

  • For grades 3-5, there is a total of 5 lessons, and each session takes 45 minutes.
  • For Middle and High School, there is a total of 9 lessons, which requires 45 minutes per session.

Cost

The curriculum materials are FREE, and the Extension Office will provide any supplies needed to complete this project.

  • DSS.K-2.7/3-5.7 – Maintain increasing amounts of concentration over a reasonable amount of time despite distractions and interruptions.
