What is 4-H?
4-H is one of the largest youth development programs in the United States
involving more than 6.5 million young people and 540,000 youth and adult volunteers.
The focus is on helping youth learn leadership, citizenship, and life skills by
participating in projects and service.
Membership is open to any youth when he/she is in at least 9 years of age and is not older than 21 within the current 4-H year, which runs from October 1 – September 30. The Cloverbud program is open to youths ages 5-7 years of age. On a local level 4-H offers community clubs, specialty clubs, cloverbud clubs, county camp(s), club outings, Achievement Banquet, and more! In 4-H youth socialize, learn, and develop life skills in a safe, educational atmosphere.Studies show that 4-H members

- feel safe to try new things
- achieve a sense of self-esteem
- develop lasting friendships

Season 2, Episodes 31-35 - Energy Express on WVPB
Join us for an egg-citing episode of Energy Express! Mark Swiger, director of WVU Extension Service’s Energy Express program, will kick off the episode by reading us “The Good Egg.”
Next, we will “peep” over to Tasha Harris, agriculture and natural resources agent in Upshur County, and Jesica Streets, agriculture and natural resources agent in Tucker County, to learn all about eggs.
Then, Craig Presar, 4-H youth development agent in Upshur County, will need help figuring out how to tell if an egg is raw or cooked.
West Virginia 4-H Recognizes 53 Presentation Expo Participants
West Virginia 4-H is proud to recognize 53 participants from 13 counties for their creativity and hard work in making their virtual presentations for the 2021 State 4-H Presentation Expo!
The State 4-H Presentation Expo is an annual event that provides an opportunity for 4-H members to gain public speaking skills across three presentation types: 1) Public Speaking, 2) PowerPoint/Digital Presentation, and 3) Visual Presentations. New to the expo this year was the 4-H Creed contest. 4-H members submitted pre-recorded presentations they conducted in their county level contest to the state-level contest where they were judged by a range of Extension Faculty & Staff, 4-H volunteers, and collegiate 4-H'ers.
Six (6) presentations will be chosen to represent West Virginia 4-H in the first annual virtual Northeast States 4-H Presentations Fest on Saturday, September 18, 2021. This event is for 4-H members between the ages of 13 and 19. Registration will open in summer 2021.
Virtual 4-H Summer Sparks
West Virginia 4-H will be offering several Summer Sparks Virtual Sessions in the months of June and July. Each Spark will be a one time 1-hour program. You may sign up any session that ‘sparks’ your interest. Check the full schedule below and picked your Spark Session based on participant’s age. Session descriptions are below. All programs will be conducted virtually on Zoom. Once registration is completed you will receive the Zoom link.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
To register go to 4h.zsuite.org. From the main dashboard, select the events tab on the left and use the search bar to look up the Virtual 4-H Summer Sparks. Registration opens on Friday, April 16, 2021.
