2018 Wirt County Fair Information

All 4-H and FFA members in Wirt County are encouraged to exhibit at the annual Wirt County Fair. In addition to livestock classes, and 4-H exhibits in the dining hall, there is a junior homemaking division dedicated to showcasing home made and home grown goods produced by our county's elementary, middle, and high school students. Here's information about the upcoming fair on August 1-4, 2018, at Camp Barbe.

Barn Clean Up Day

All livestock exhibitors are required to attend barn cleanup day on July 28, 2018, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Beginning at 8 a.m., exhibitors may get an official pen tag from John Workman to mark their stalls. Any pen tags in place prior to 8 a.m. on Saturday will be removed.

Barn Passes

Barn passes will be sold Saturday during cleanup. They are $5 and you must bring cash if your club is not paying for them! If you do not get them Saturday, they can be purchased Tuesday at the fair office. Please bring cash to pay for these if your club isn’t covering the cost!

Livestock Check In

Animal check in will be from 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Exhibitors will take their animals to their pens before being called to weigh them. In the case we need to re-weigh animals, all animals will be re-weighed. Each exhibitor may only register two (2) market animals. All market animals must be shown in showmanship as well.

Dining Hall Exhibits

Dining hall exhibits must be checked in between 4 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. All 4-H and FFA members have an exhibitor number assigned and do not need to go to the fair office to check in. Dining hall exhibits must be picked up on Saturday evening after 9 p.m. Please refer to your project score sheet to see what you need to make for your exhibit to complete your project book.

If you need help figuring out what to do for your exhibit please contact the Wirt County Extension Office. Please visit the link below for a full listing of classes available in the junior homemaking division. Please note: exhibiting in the junior homemaking division does not take place of your 4-H exhibit needed to complete your project book.

Activity Records

Each 4-H Member must complete an activity record. These will be distributed by your club leader or can be picked up at the Extension Office. Bring your activity record to the fair with your project exhibit!  This is factored in to your overall score.

Advertising in the Paper

All livestock exhibitors should send pictures of themselves with their animals to the paper as soon as possible. This helps promote the fair. You can email photos to news@wirtjournal.com. Note: please send a high resolution (300 DPI) image, if possible.

Buyers Passes

Every buyer who has purchased an animal in the past three (3) years from the Wirt County Fair will be sent two buyers passes in the mail. If you need buyers passes for new buyers, please contact the Wirt County Extension Office at 304-275-3101.

Poultry Pollurum Testing

Pollurum testing will take place at the time poultry exhibits are checked in.
