Wirt County Livestock Showmanship Clinic

A livestock showmanship clinic will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Wirt County High School from 4 - 6 p.m for 4-H and FFA members. All Wirt County 4-H and FFA Members are encouraged to attend.

This workshop will allow you to participate in hands-on activities in small groups and ask species specific questions to adults with experience in showing livestock. You will gain valuable insight and resources to help you better understand the value of raising and showing livestock animals.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 4 - 5 p.m. - Youth Rotations with Hands-on Activities

    • Rotation One: Feed Rations

    • Rotation Two: De-Worming

    • Rotation Three: Administering Vaccinations

    • Rotation Four: Selection of Desirable Animals

    • Rotation Five: Snack Break

  • 5 - 6 p.m. - Species Specific Sessions (Youth & Adults Welcome)

    • Market Rabbits

    • Beef (Replacement Heifers, Feeder Steers and Heifers, and Market Steers)

    • Market Lambs

    • Market Hogs

Registration for the event is due by Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 4 p.m., to the WVU Extension Service Wirt County Office.
