Several Wayne County 4-H youth competed in the
2019 State 4-H Forestry Contest on May 4 at the Westvaco Natural Resource
Center near Morgantown. Below, Coach & Ag Agent Evan Wilson stands with the
youth participants from Wayne County. The Junior Team of Duke, Addie and Josie
placed first in the state in the junior division. Individual placings are as follows:
Duke placed 4th in the state; Danielle placed 6th in the state; Addy placed 7th
in the state; Jenna placed 9th in the state, Alivia placed 10th in the state; and
Josie placed 11th in the state.
As part of the competition, youth had to complete an exam with a variety of forestry
related questions, as well as be tested in compass and pacing, insect identification,
tree identification, tree disease identification, tree measurement and forest evaluation.
