Monongalia County 4-H and National 4-H Week

The Monongalia County 4-H Program will be hosting a National 4-H Week Council Circle and Achievement Program on October 6 at Camp Muffly. We will begin the afternoon with tribal meetings at 2 p.m., followed by council circle from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Attention 4-H club leaders: The 4-H Leaders Association will be holding a National 4-H Week decorated door contest. The theme will be Add Color to Your Life with 4-H – Responsibility, Citizenship, Service, Leadership, Communication. You have until the end of October to complete your decorated door which can be anything (billboard, poster, door, etc.) that is displayed in a public location. There are monetary prizes. Pictures must be emailed to me at Becca.Fint-Clark@mail.wvu.edu or texted to me at 304-376-2639 by October 31.

Monongalia County Fair 4-H Exhibits

The Monongalia County 4-H Program is excited to exhibit 4-H members’ projects at the 2019 Monongalia County Fair. In order to exhibit, youth enrolled as regular 4-H members will complete and turn in 4-H exhibits to the Hazel Ruby Building at Mylan Park during exhibit check-in. (Project books were due to the Extension Office by June 3, 2019). 4-H members may also drop off non-food exhibits at the Extension Office the week before the Fair – August 5-9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship, leadership, and life skills of youth through hands-on learning programs. The 4-H name represents four personal development areas of focus for the organization: head, heart, hands, and health. Although typically thought of as an agriculturally focused organization as a result of its history, 4-H today focuses on citizenship, healthy living, and science, engineering and technology programs.

Adult Leadership/ 4-H All Star Weekend Registration and Information

The weekend has three separate registration options for participants. A Friday Package ($20), Saturday Only Package (Free) and Sunday Package ($10). Participants can register for any portion of the weekend with the total cost being a maximum of $30 (if staying in cottages for the entire weekend). If participants are interested in private housing options at Jackson’s Mill (private lodging, lodge or suites) they must call Jackson’s Mill directly to reserve and pay additionally for those options. Jackson’s Mill is currently accepting reservations for private lodging for this weekend. Past participants of YAC, VLW or Collegiate 4-H Conference will also be sent an additional promo code directly to further reduce the cost of the weekend as a thank you for their past participation in those events.

The schedule for this weekend is still being finalized, but will include speakers, workshops, an interactive/hands on service project and experiences which will help educate and train our adult 4-H members and volunteers in new and exciting areas in 4-H. The bulk of the experiences will be throughout Saturday, but some activities will be available on Friday evening and Sunday morning. The WV 4-H All Stars will have various recognition and events surrounding their 100th birthday as well as a consecration service for new members.  Remember this is the only scheduled consecration for adults in 2019.  We will also recognize outstanding volunteer, 45 and 50 year leaders.  This will be a great opportunity for adults from your county to learn and engage with others from throughout the state.
