Producers need stored forage for feeding livestock during winter months and droughts. The most common forms of stored forage are dry hay and plastic-wrapped fermented haylage. At times, stored forage is necessary for feeding livestock. It can be high quality and convenient, but it can cost producers two to four times the cost of properly managed pasture. Since stored forage is a higher cost feed, proper management should be implemented to keep costs in line.
